Pedestrians have the right of way right? Everyone knows this. But this should not however, give you free reign to cross the street whenever and wherever you damn well please. They have crosswalks for a reason! And just because the law is on your side doesn’t mean that you should forego looking both ways before walking. If I hit you with my car because you saw me coming and decided to dart out into the road anyway, I might be guilty of breaking the law but you’d be guilty of being a moron. Wherever it is that you’re trying to get to cannot be that important that you’re willing to put your life and mine in danger. I know, I know, if I’m driving I should be constantly aware of my surroundings and be in control of my car at all times. But no one’s perfect and it only takes a second for something to go wrong. If I’m trying my best not to hit you, you should be trying your best not to get hit. That means using proper judgement on when is the appropriate time to cross. Otherwise, it’s just natural selection at work.
